BT adds smartphone baby monitor to award winning range

BT has unveiled a new addition to its award-winning baby monitor family – the BT Smart Audio Baby Monitor.

The new monitor is designed to make things easier for parents by allowing them to listen to their baby from their smartphone. Like the existing products it comes with a baby unit which is placed in the baby’s room; however the parent unit is always within reach as parents can listen via an app on their smartphones. It currently works with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, but BT is also developing an app for Android.

The BT Smart Audio Baby Monitor is very easy to set up. Once the monitor has been purchased customers simply download the free app from the app store and they can be set up in minutes. It gives parents the capability to monitor their baby from wherever they get reception on their phone. This means they can check in and listen to make sure the baby is ok when they have left him or her with the babysitter. The BT Smart Audio Baby Monitor works over a wi-fi, 3G or 4G connection.

Erik Raphael, BT director of devices, said: “We’ve had a great response to our other baby monitors and we’re really pleased to be expanding the range to include smartphone monitoring. The new monitor will give that extra peace of mind to busy modern parents.”

The new BT Smart Audio Baby Monitor is secure and puts parents in control over who can hear their baby. Special encryption guarantees only the people they choose to allow to listen in can hear their baby. If parents want to add more accounts, say for a grandparent or babysitter, they can link their device to the app. When they are done, they simply de-link it from the accounts section of the app.

BT’s range of baby monitors has received glowing customer reviews and has won numerous awards including the Mother and Baby Gold Award, the Prima Baby and Pregnancy Platinum Readers Award and Mumsnet Best.
The Smart Audio Baby Monitor is available now from www.bt.com/shop/SmartAudio, Amazon.co.uk, John Lewis, Argos and other leading high street stores and from Mothercare during August. It costs £79.99.
