BT Ireland renews its partnership with Olympian Kieran Behan

• Ireland’s most successful gymnast secures the backing of BT for another 12 months
• BT is the main commercial sponsor to Kieran Behan

Dublin July, 30, 2013. One year on from the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, 2012 BT Ireland has today announced the renewal of its sponsorship of Irish gymnast Kieran Behan for another 12 months as he embarks on the road to Rio 2016.

The next major competitions on the Gymnastics calendar are the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships which will be held in Antwerp, Belgium, from September 30th to October 6th and the 2014 European Championships.

Kieran’s feat of representing Ireland in London 2012 was all the more remarkable as the 24 year old has suffered an extraordinary series of injuries and was twice told he would never walk again. Undeterred, Kieran is now in the process of expanding his repertoire to include all six apparatus rather than focusing solely on his floor routine.

Kieran Behan said; “The next twelve months are hugely important for me, working towards my goal of representing Ireland in another Olympic Games. BT’s support is making my training and preparation for the upcoming World and European Championships a much less daunting task. One of the little but important things it has enabled me to do has been to move closer to my training facility which has made a huge difference to my life.”

As well as offering financial and in-kind support, BT is providing Kieran with the telephone and broadband services he needs to stay in touch with his friends, family and coaches.

Priscilla O’Regan, Head of Communications, BT Ireland, said; “We are delighted to continue our relationship with Kieran for another year as he continues on the road to Rio. At BT Ireland we are constantly looking to fine-tune our own processes and behaviours to deliver an unrivalled performance and those values are continually demonstrated in Kieran’s drive for perfection. Kieran is an adept choice, he is widely admired and respected, and we are proud to be helping him achieve his goal of becoming a world-class gymnast”.

Sally Filmer of Gymnastics Ireland said; “BT’s ongoing support of Kieran is a testament to the dedication and determination of Ireland’s most decorated male gymnast. BT has found a fantastic ambassador in Kieran whose achievements transcend those of the sports realm
and are inspirational to us all.”

BT Ireland operates as an all island operation, headquartered in Belfast and Dublin, and employs close to 3,000 people. In the Republic of Ireland, BT is a leading provider of networked IT services to government and major businesses and is also a leader in the provision of wholesale network services.
