BT jobs for Jarrow

BT is to recruit more than 50 people at its state-of-the-art offices on Rolling Mill Road in Jarrow.

The full-time roles will primarily be in finance, human resources and payroll, delivering services to a range of local government customers. The posts include team leaders and team members of both transactional and customer service teams, with recruiters looking for applicants from across South Tyneside and the wider region.

The recruitment drive will expand BT’s involvement in the regeneration of South Tyneside. The BT South Tyneside strategic partnership between BT and South Tyneside Council currently employs 350 staff at its Hawthorne Building in Jarrow, whilst a further 221 people are employed by BT in the borough, mainly at its One Harton Quay flagship building.

Councillor Michael Clare, lead member for Regeneration and Economy at South Tyneside Council, said: “This is great news for local job seekers and for the people of South Tyneside, especially during such economically challenging times. It is an excellent opportunity for local people who would like a career with the BT team and we would urge them to apply.

“Creating more job opportunities is a key priority for the Council as we work with our partners to reduce unemployment levels and create the right conditions for business growth and investment across the Borough.

“Our BT South Tyneside partnership has been a real success story in helping us to achieve this. We would like to thank BT for its continued commitment to the Borough and its major regeneration.”
Job descriptions and details of how to apply can be found on South Tyneside Council’s website www.southtyneside.info/jobs.The closing date for applications is Monday 16th December with interviews commencing in early January next year.

BT is also inviting people interested in the jobs to visit South Shields Town Hall on December 12 between 11.30am and 7pm to get more information in an informal setting. There will be opportunities to meet BT staff already working in similar roles who can share their experiences and answer questions.

Deborah Ferguson has worked as a payroll team leader for eight months. She said: “It’s really exciting to be part of a new team. It has certainly been an action packed adventure so far, fast paced, challenging but
extremely worthwhile and rewarding.

“It feels great to be part of something that BT is investing in for the future of both their business and South Tyneside. It is also very refreshing to see how keen they are to identify local talent.”

John Tyreman, BT’s head of shared services, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to join a new, locally based, team which they can actively help to shape and develop from day one. There will be real opportunities for career progression and many other benefits that go hand-in-hand with working for an organisation of BT’s size.

“We are looking for driven, enthusiastic people with experience of working in finance, human resources and payroll who are looking for new challenges and are absolutely committed to providing top-class customer service.”
