BT local business Norfolk and Suffolk expands to help more local businesses

BT LOCAL BUSINESS NORFOLK & SUFFOLK EXPANDS
TO HELP MORE LOCAL FIRMS

A company, which provides communications products and services for around 91,000 small businesses across Norfolk and Suffolk, is planning to recruit more staff after moving into new, larger offices in the centre of Norwich.

The BT Local Business, which trades as Unified Comms Ltd, has made the move to the new offices at Dragon House, 22 Unthank Road, Norwich to meet the growing demand for high-speed broadband and other new services.

It has been a long-awaited ambition of the firm to bring its communications business into the centre of Norwich, having spent 10 years operating from the outskirts of the city.

The new business premises isre-named ‘Dragon House’ and was previously known as the Norwich RAF Careers Office. The name was chosen by the four Directors of Unified Comms Ltd to neatly coincide with the Norwich Dragon Festival, which is currently being celebrated in the city.

The building has had a major overhaul to transform it into the new offices for Unified Comms Ltd. The extensive renovation project is backed by funding from the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), enabling Unified Comms Ltd to operate from a central location. With an improved office size and location, the company is confident that it can now fully achieve its aim to help local businesses enhance their communications - in conjunction with the government’s BDUK better broadband scheme

The well-established business currently employs 22 people, and is looking to expand its workforce to 35 in the next 18 months.

Nathan Defew, managing director of the BT Local Business, said: “These fantastic new facilities will help us expand in the future. We’ve already taken on some new staff from Norwich and we are looking to carry out further recruitment. The growing demand and availability of fibre broadband and higher speed services are among the major factors driving our need for new staff and office space.

“Being a small business ourselves, we are better placed to understand the special needs of other small businesses. As we emerge from the economic downturn, more and more small businesses are recognising the importance of using high-speed communications and information technology even more effectively to help them retain customers and remain competitive, here and internationally.

“They realise communicating effectively with their staff and suppliers, as well as their customers, is paramount. Businesses are also looking for advice on how to reduce costs and invest wisely in technology to help their businesses remain profitable. The availability of high-speed broadband has made working from home more viable than ever.”
