BT Sport shows Wigan Athletic’s Europa League debut and European League games led by PSG v Monaco

BT Sport today unveiled a host of UEFA Europa League football matches that it will screen, with Wigan Athletic’s first competitive game in Europe to be shown exclusively live.

The UEFA Europa League matches add to BT Sport’s new selection of live European top tier games from France, Italy and Germany, including the clash of the season so far: Paris Saint-Germain v Monaco.

Wigan start their European adventure on Thursday, September 19, with a tricky away fixture against Belgian League runners-up SV Zulte Waregem in UEFA Europa League Group D. The match coverage, on BT Sport 1, will start at 5:30pm.

BT Sport will also be following the Latics’ progress a fortnight later on October 3 from 8pm, when the FA Cup holders make their home European debut playing host to Slovenian champions NK Maribor at the DW Stadium.

Simon Green, Head of BT Sport, said: “Wigan, travelling from the bottom rung of the football league to become holders of the FA Cup over a relatively short period, and now competitors in the UEFA Europa League, is one of the inspiring football stories of recent years.”

BT Sport has four exclusive live matches from the UEFA Europa League from each of the first two match days – on both BT Sport 1 and ESPN. Following the SV Zulte Waregem v Wigan match, BT Sport will also show Spain’s Real Betis v France’s FC Lyon.

BT Sport 1 will also show four games on match day two on October 3, including Spanish former UEFA Europa League winners Seville who take on SC Freiburg of Germany. Coverage commences at 5:30pm.

BT Sport’s UEFA Europa League coverage bolsters its selection of live matches from the top tiers of European leagues in France, Italy and Germany. BT Sport has also revealed a number of mouth-watering live matches from these leagues in September.

The Ligue 1 battle of the big spenders – Paris Saint-Germain v Monaco – will be exclusively live on BT Sport 1 at 8pm on Sunday, September 22. Fans of Italy’s Serie A might prefer the clash of AC Milan v Rafa Benitez’s Napoli, starting at 7:30pm on BT Sport 2 the same day.

The day before, on BT Sport 1 from 5:30pm, two heavyweights of the Bundesliga slug it out, as Schalke play host to Bundesliga and Champions League holders, Bayern Munich.

BT Sport also has the rights to show 38 exclusively live English football matches from the Barclays Premier League, including 18 of the “top picks” for three seasons. The channels will also show live FA Cup with Budweiser matches for the next five seasons, UEFA Europa League, top tier football from Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, Australia and the USA, plus action from the FA Women’s Super League and 30 live matches from the Football Conference.
