These steps will help us deliver on our ambition to be the most personal brand in the UK and do so much more for our customers than the connectivity we're known for.

We want to be a personal guide – helping our customers navigate the complex world of technology, devices, platforms, subscriptions and services.

We’re also walking hand in hand with some of the most exciting tech companies in the world to bring our customers the best experiences possible and connect them to new products and services. Today, we’ve unveiled the latest example of that: our partnership with NVIDIA on its cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW.

With the cloud gaming bundles that our teams have worked so hard to put together, we’re able to not only provide customers with membership for one of the best streaming platforms – but also offer them the hardware and data too, helping to make high-level gaming even more accessible and affordable to customers across the UK.

It’s another part of EE’s ongoing ambition to become the number 1 destination for gamers in the UK. But that’s just one piece of the puzzle, and what we’re doing with New EE that we’re bringing to life this summer.

Reinventing retail with our new stores

The networks, platforms and partnerships – such as the one we have with NVIDIA – mean we are pioneers in so many technologies. We want EE to be a personal brand that makes sense of the world of technology for our customers.

So, we’re big believers in retail.

Our new EE Studio store in London’s White City is another glimpse into the world of New EE we're building. </pp:boilerplate>

BT Home Essentials to launch next month, offering fibre broadband and call packages to everyone receiving Universal Credit (and certain legacy benefits*), covering an estimated 4.6 million households

BT research reveals nearly a third of Brits feel more financially vulnerable since the start of the pandemic¹ and a quarter of financially vulnerable people worry about being cut off if they can’t pay their bills²

BT Home Essentials is an industry leading social tariff for eligible customers with average download speeds of 36 Mbps and 700 mins of calls for £15 a month – saving customers £240 a year³ compared to an equivalent package

BT has announced it will launch BT Home Essentials in June, a market leading social tariff connecting those on low income with affordable fibre broadband and calls. The new low cost tariff comes as BT research reveals that since the pandemic, almost three quarters (74%) of Brits would not find it easy to improve their financial situation without connectivity¹, and the majority (79%) of financially vulnerable people rely on broadband connectivity to manage household finances².

Available exclusively to those on Universal Credit and a range of other means-tested benefits*, BT Home Essentials meets the demands of the modern home and provides futureproof fibre connectivity at a time when online resources have never been more important. BT research has found that three times as many people say they could not go without broadband (67%) versus public transport (20%)¹.

BT Home Essentials is a separate and improved social tariff compared to BT’s initial version, BT Basic, launched in 2008. Home Essentials provides an average of 36 Mbps download speeds and 700 minutes of calls for £15 a month, around half the price of a standard fibre and calls package. Alternatively, eligible customers can also opt for average speeds of 67 Mbps and unlimited calls for £20 per month. The lowest price equivalent standard BT broadband package costs £32.99 a month, with an additional £15 for our unlimited calls plan – this means BT Home Essentials customers choosing the £20 option can save over £330 a year.4

Marc Allera, CEO, BT’s Consumer division, said, “Fast, reliable connectivity has never been as important as it is today, with millions of people relying upon our networks to get back on their feet after the pandemic.

“We want to help as many people as we can, which is why at the end of June we’ll be launching BT Home Essentials, increasing the eligibility of our social tariff to include all customers on Universal Credit. BT Home Essentials will be available at half the price of our standard fibre package, helping a potential four million households on low income save on bills and stay connected to vital online services.”

Digital Infrastructure Minister, Matt Warman, said: “In today's digital world, everyone should be able to access fast, reliable and affordable internet, so I'm thrilled that BT is the latest provider to launch new deals for low income households.

“We have been working with internet providers to offer affordable broadband tariffs for those struggling with bills to help the UK build back fairer from the pandemic.
New and existing BT broadband customers to receive a personalised speed guarantee - providing BT’s most reliable broadband experience to date

Around-the-clock speed monitoring and automatic personalised line checks, ensuring the best broadband performance for customers

Expert customer service in the UK and Ireland to quickly assist customers in getting their most reliable broadband speeds

BT today has launched a new service commitment for home broadband customers, which includes a new Stay Fast Guarantee and expert customer service care to provide reliable broadband speeds.

BT’s latest broadband offering is a further commitment to provide the best and most personal service for all customers.

When BT customers sign up to a new BT broadband plan or extend their existing contract, they will be given a bespoke speed guarantee for their home based on the estimated capability of their line. If it’s believed a broadband customer could get a faster line speed, BT will first remotely optimise broadband performance without the customer having to do a thing. Alternatively, if required, an engineer can then be sent to find the best solution for that customer.

If BT has not managed to get a customer’s broadband speeds back to where they should be after 30 days of a fault being identified, they will be eligible to receive £20 back, up to 4 times a year.

BT will also ensure customer broadband speeds are being monitored and optimized remotely 24 hours a day, every day with support on hand from experts in the UK & Ireland to resolve speed issues quickly. Customers can also proactively check speeds themselves with their My BT account.

Kelly Barlow, Marketing Director, BT: “With our new Stay Fast Guarantee, we don’t just guarantee customers’ broadband speeds, we constantly check and optimise them, so they’ll get reliable broadband speeds all day every day. If a customer’s broadband falls below their personal speed guarantee then we have an expert team of service agents on hand to get things back to normal as soon as possible - ensuring they get the best and most personal broadband experience.”

BT already offers a speed guarantee for Ultrafast Fibre customers – BT is the first and only fibre broadband with a Stay Fast Guarantee for speeds up to 150Mb.
