World first for BT Sport as it shows UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League games in Dolby Atmos sound

Summary

BT Sport will show exclusive live coverage of Manchester United v St Etienne and Manchester City v AS Monaco in Dolby Atmos sound, the first time this has ever happened in UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League matches.

BT Sport will show exclusive live coverage of Manchester United v St Etienne and Manchester City v AS Monaco in Dolby Atmos sound, the first time this has ever happened in UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League matches.

The matches will be broadcast in Dolby Atmos sound exclusively on BT Sport’s 4K UHD channel available with the BT TV Total Entertainment package. This builds on the first ever Premier League match using Dolby Atmos sound last month when Liverpool played Chelsea at Anfield in January, with three further games being shown since then.

This week will see Manchester United take on St Etienne at Old Trafford on Thursday, February 16, 2017. In another first the match will also see star player Paul Pogba take on his older brother, St Etienne defender, Florentin for the first time ever. The game kicks off at 8.05pm live on BT Sport.

Next week on Tuesday, February 21, will also see Manchester City try and progress in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 at home to AS Monaco, kicking off at 7.45pm.

Dolby Atmos sound is available on BT Sport’s 4K UHD channel. From this season, BT has doubled the number of sports events broadcast in Ultra HD. Dolby Atmos sound combined with Ultra HD delivered the most immersive experience possible, allowing customers to feel as if they are actually in the stadium. This is available for no extra cost with BT TV’s Total Entertainment pack.

Jamie Hindhaugh, chief operating officer BT TV & BT Sport, said: “BT Sport is always aiming to be innovative and Dolby Atmos sound is a fantastic addition for viewers watching the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. We’ve already shown four Premier League matches in Dolby Atmos sound so far this year and I’m delighted that BT Sport is delivering the same immersive experience for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. We want viewers to truly feel the atmosphere of the stadium when watching games BT Sport.”
