Broadband boost in the pipeline for Nocton

Broadband speeds in Nocton will soon be soaring as Onlincolnshire promises further improvements in the village.

The Onlincolnshire partnership between local councils and BT is on target to extend superfast broadband coverage to 89 per cent of Lincolnshire by the end of April 2016, having already made the high-speed fibre technology available to more than 136,000 properties.

And now there are plans for an additional fibre broadband cabinet to be installed outside the Post Office in Nocton within the next six months. It will mean that many of the 210 properties in the village will be able to get much faster broadband speeds.

Cllr Richard Davies, Executive Member for IT, said: "I'm delighted that we're in a position to be able to make these additional improvements, which we know the community has been calling for.

"It means residents will soon be able to enjoy speeds over 24Mbps.

"We're hoping to have the work completed by the end of March next year. After that, all people will have to do is contact their internet service provider and upgrade to a superfast package."

Steve Henderson, BT’s regional director for next generation access, added: “We are delighted to be bringing high-speed fibre broadband to people in Nocton. Those living in the village will soon be able to benefit from a fast and reliable fibre service with a choice of service provider. This is a really exciting time for the project in Lincolnshire with more and more properties able to connect to fibre each week.”

There’s further good news for homes and businesses throughout Lincolnshire with the news that a second phase of work, extending coverage up to 95 per cent by the end of 2017, is currently in the planning stage.

The improvements have been made possible thanks to funding from Lincolnshire councils, BT, the Government and European Regional Development Fund.
