EE continue to grow its 4G network in Wales with dedicated site for the Royal Welsh Show

Summary
EE activates new permanent 4G mobile mast in Llanelwedd, in time for the Royal Welsh Show, that will provide enhanced 4G mobile coverage for visitors attending the prestigious event, as well as the local community living and working in close proximity to the site.

EE today (Friday, 15th July) activated a new permanent 4G mobile mast in Llanelwedd, in time for the Royal Welsh Show. The new mast will provide enhanced 4G mobile coverage for visitors attending the prestigious event, as well as the local community living and working in close proximity to the site.

The new permanent EE mast will improve mobile coverage and increase capacity at the Royal Welsh Show to manage the high mobile data demands of the expected 240,000 visitors using their smartphones. It will also add even more superfast 4G coverage to the local community in Llanelwedd. EE, which merged with BT earlier this year, has an ambition to connect 95% of the UK landmass by 2020.

Julie James, Minister for Skills and Science, said:

“It’s great to hear that EE are providing permanent 4G connection at the Royal Welsh Show. I’m pleased that the Welsh Government have been able to facilitate discussions which will enable the local community and visitors to benefit from improved network coverage. This is a further boost for the area which already has access to superfast broadband thanks to Superfast Cymru.”

Steve Hughson, Chief Executive of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, said;

“As part of the society’s ambition to become one of the best connected rural event sites in Wales, we are delighted that EE have installed a permanent telecommunications mast on the showground in readiness for this year’s Royal Welsh Show. We hope this will encourage other mobile phone companies to do the same and thank EE, Welsh Government and everyone else who helped to deliver this important project.

“Not only will this new mast improve the facilities on offer for our visitors here at the Royal Welsh Showground, but it will also benefit the local communities in Llanelwedd and Builth Wells with the improved network coverage and superfast 4G speeds.”

Mansoor Hanif, 4G Network Director at EE, said:

“We already have more 4G coverage in Wales than any other mobile provider, and we’ll continue to invest to ensure people stay connected right across the country.”

Alwen Williams, regional director for BT Cymru/Wales, said:

“Improving our communications infrastructure across the country is vital to the economic prosperity of Wales and something that both BT and EE are playing a key role in achieving. By combining our skills and expertise we can help make Wales one of the very best countries for connectivity.”

“The new 4G mast at the Royal Welsh reflects what can be achieved and is great news for both visitors to the Show and local residents.”
