BT today announced details of a major new initiative ‘BT Work Ready Live’ – a virtual event which aims to inspire and help young people to secure a job and kick-start their careers and part of BT’s brand ambitions to go Beyond Limits.

The event will be hosted by football and Esports presenter Spencer Owen, the founder and CEO of Hashtag Utd, joined by Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer division, award-winning young entrepreneur Jack Parsons, founder of The Youth Group, artists, songwriter, TV presenter and footballer Chelcee Grimes and television and radio presenter Maya Jama.

‘BT Work Ready Live’ will be streamed live on the BT YouTube page on Monday 3rd August at 3pm and feature a panel of talented young people who will share their personal experiences along with top tips for job seekers. The event will share inspiration and advice on getting work-ready, identifying career goals, the skills employers are looking for, how to make your CV stand out and how to be a hit at interviews.

Young people have been particularly hard hit by the current unemployment crisis and the effects of the pandemic on work opportunities. Research by YouGov has found that those in their late teens and early 20s are the groups most likely to have lost their job as a result of Covid-19, and the Resolution Foundation estimates that – for lower-skilled young adults –the chances of finding a job will be reduced by a third.

Marc Allera, CEO BT’s Consumer division said “Our BT Work Ready programme has already helped thousands of young people gain the skills and experience they need to take the first step on the career ladder and there has never been a more important time for us to help drive a sustainable, inclusive economic recovery in the UK”

“With increasing numbers of people looking for work and young people being particularly hard hit, BT Work Ready Live will be bigger than ever and bring together personal experiences and practical advice which we hope will motivate and inspire job seekers in what can be an extremely difficult and stressful time. The virtual ‘BT Work Ready Live’ event will be available to all – and live on the BT YouTube channel.”

BT is one of the UK’s largest private-sector employer of apprentices and through its award-winning Work Ready programme has already helped 3,300 young people gain the skills and experience they need to take the first step on the career ladder.

Work Ready is part of BT’s Skills for Tomorrow programme which is helping 10 million people in the UK develop the skills they need to make the most of life in the digital world. Working in partnership with a range of leading digital skills, enterprise and community organisations, BT have created and collated some of the best advice, information and support at www.bt.com/skillsfortomorrow including free webinars and online courses for job seekers.

BT’s Work Ready Live event will be streamed live on the BT YouTube page on Monday 3rd August at 3pm. The content from the event will also be available after the event on the BT YouTube page.
