A tool to highlight misinformation

As COVID-19 news and information dominate the news, misinformation about the virus is also peaking, undermining public trust. BT has long been committed to the online safety of our customers, providing advice and safeguarding tools that help protect all users.

That’s why we’ve partnered with NewsGuard, to provide our customers and employees with the tools to navigate the online world. NewsGuard’s browser extension provides users with warnings when websites have published false or misleading information about COVID-19 or any other topic, including hoaxes and dangerous misinformation, conspiracy theories or cures.

The tool helps people make their own choices and judgements about the sources of information they find online. As part of its efforts to help in the global effort against COVID-19, NewsGuard made its browser extension, which costs £2.95/month, free to download until 1 July. The partnership with BT extends this offer until 31 October, 2020
